Trekking in Tibet can be challenging for you because of the altitude, that’s why we begin our trip from lhasa in order to get acclimatized before you jump on to trek. The trekking tour in Tibet will balance the cultural and wilderness experience before heading up into the isolated and high passes, we will visit some ancient monuments and holy monasteries.
Trekking in Tibet is the best way to explore the country side. The breathtaking views of the snow-capped peaks as well as the views of Tibetan countryside will make the journey an unforgettable one. We will take part in (where possible) prayer ceremonies, visit the homes of local Tibetans and discuss religious customs throughout the trip. Ganden to Samye Trek Detailed Itinerary
1st day at Lhasa(3600 mt high):
Upon arrival, our guide and the driver will greet you either at airport or railway station and drive to your respective hotel in Lhasa, stay at hotel for adapting to the high altitude, as it, s good if you don,t push yourself harsh and take it easy. Even if you want to walk out, make it light as it, s your first day in Tibet. And make sure that you drink mineral water more than usual. Try to avoid having alcohol on first three nights in Tibet. Your guide will introduce you the tomorrow, s program.
2nd day at Lhasa:
Full day sightseeing of Lhasa, in the morning, you can visit the treasure house Potala Palace- the center attraction of whole Lhasa. It is founded in 7th century and since then it had been used as a palace of every successive leaders of Tibet. In the afternoon, your guide will lead you to visit the Sera monastery, which was founded in 1419, in 15th century. It, s the second largest yellow hat lineage monastery in whole Lhasa. if you are hiking enthusiast or don, t show any sign of altitude sickness, ask your guide to lead an hour hiking through the pilgrimage path around the monastery and it, s worth taking chance. While visiting monastery, you will witness the monks doing philosophical debates in the courtyard.
3rd day at Lhasa:
Today, we will visit Drepung monastery, it was once the largest yellow hat lineage monastery of whole of Tibet and it was founded in 1416 and one get to see some magnificient statues of Buddha which are dated back to 15th century. Even if it was badly affected during the cultural revolution , but still some of the orginal buildings which are dated back to 15th century can be seen even today.
In the afternoon, your guide shall guide to the Jokhang temple which is situated in the old Tibetan quarter of Lhasa. It was founded in 7th century , considered one of the first Buddihist temple ever built up in whole Tibet, founded even before the full fledge Buddhism came to Tibet. Founding this Buddhist temple is a mark of initiating the Buddhism here. After the visit, we advise you to take a circumambulation around the temple, as you can witness some of hundred years old authentic buildings and you will come across hundreds of local pilgrims doing pilgrimage circuit around the temple. If you are interested in shopping, you will be welcomed by souvenir shop owners. You will be escorted to the hotel by our tour guide.
4th day Ganden monastery- Drupshi village
After one and half hour drive from Lhasa, we arrive Ganden monastery which is founded in1409 and known to be first yellow hat monastery ever built up in Tibet. Right after the
visit, your guide will lead you for an hour walk around the monastery, where you shall enjoy an excellent view of whole Lhasa valley. Then you will be driven to Drupshi village from where we have to start our trekking next day. Tonight, your guide and cook will prepare dinner and here onwards, we sleep in tent until we finish the trek
5th day Drupshi- Yama do(4 to 5hours)
Today you will be walking through villages ,along with river and today,s walk will be pretty easy and we will reach our destiny quite early, and we will put camp near nomad,s tent and we are right below the shugar la pass.
6th day Trek to Tsotup Chu Valley (5 to 6hours)
In the morning, leave the valley floor and make our way through a steep gully rising form the stream bank. Then, climb the Shugar La(5250m) pass and begin our climb down through treacherous boulder fields. Later, cross Tsotup Chu, a large stream winding through the valley floor. We put the camp in one of the herder field
7th day Herder’s Camp (5 hours)
Follow the Tsotup Chu down through its tributary and head towards the Chitu La pass(5225m). After ascending this rocky pass, we will quickly descend down and find a beautiful place to camp in one of the fields surrounding the stream. To find our campsite we will meander through quiet herder camps for nearly an hour. Another beautiful day of our trek is over! Camping
8th day Changtang village,Yamalung Hermitage
The trail gets wider and easier as we follow through scrub forests in the main valley. Beautiful streams and lush forests surround us as we walking. However, the desert is close by. The next few hours are arguably the most beautiful part of our trek. More than 15 types of scrub trees, blooming rhododendrons, and vast meadow will amaze your every step of the way! After passing through this wondrous landscape, we will trek through the Changtang village. Less than an hour away, participants can choose to make the one-hour hike to the Yamalung Hermitage. Yamalung is an ancient and holy Buddhist meditation site, but is completely up to you whether you want to go. Later join the Samye valley along the babbling tributary stream. The night will be spent at another comfortable campsite, not far from Samye.
9th day Samye
We drive to Samye and will check in monastery hotel, relax a bit and in the afternoon, we will visit samye monastery, which is the first Buddhist monastery ever built up in Tibet and it was founded in 8th century. And then, if you still feel like doing a short hiking, you can walk over mount Hepo ri, in which guru Rinpoche took meditation
10th Drive to Airport
Transfer to Lhasa airport (about 1.5 hours driving), and fly to your next destination

4th day Lhasa/ Tsurphu Monastery
Driving from Lhasa to Tsurphu Monastery, takes about 2 hours, and the altitude will up to 4480m. Today you will be spent acclimatizing further and visiting this Tsurphu Monastery. Overnight at Tsurphu monastery
5th Tsurphu Monastery / Leten, trekking 4 hours, 11km
This trek will lead you to spectacular first day of trekking up a green valley crisscrossed with mountain streams and also several small nomadic communities camp are there for the summer herding months, and you may stop to experience nomad, s tent with a cup of salt butter tea or some fresh dri milk. After walking over the ridge top for hours , you will, emerge onto a high plateau with a scattering of rock-enclosed huts, and look for a flat area for camping.
6th Leten / Bartso, trekking 5-6 hours, 15km
Have your first small pass, the Damchen Nyingtri, bear to the left at the cairns at the crest, and descend into a magical valley of lichen-coated boulders, meandering streams and expansive, powder-blue sky. Three hours later, you will cross the Lasar La and descend into the Yangpachen valley, with its wide open plateaus, spiky grass hummocks and tundra-like parched, cracked patches of earth, and head towards Bartso. The views of Brize (translated as female yak herder) and Tarze (horse keeper) are superb, and you will feel safe in the care of the local mountain god, Nyenchen tanglha. Camp near Bartso, a drokpa (nomad) village of five or six houses, surrounded by the juniper used for incense all over the Tibetan world.
7th day Bartso/Dorje Ling Nunnery, Trekking 4 hours, 15km
Leaving the village of Bartso behind, head towards a wide trail leading across the valley and over another ridge, from where you will be rewarded with views of NyenchenTanglha (7111m), the holiest mountain in central Tibet. Emerge at Tajung village, and then climb gently up rolling hills where young nomadic boys and girls picnic on the plateaus as they watch their yaks and sheep graze. By the time, when we our final destiny , it will not be late then, you can visit the nunnery after having a short relax in your camp. Here ,we conclude the tsurphu trek.
8th -9th day namtso lake 150 km/ 4700m-lhasa 250km
Today, we will be crossing a very high pass ie Lagyen la (5190m) ,from where we can have the best view of the whole trip. Then, we will reach Namtso lake which is known to world,s highest salted lake. After , having a relax, you can wonder around and it will be a nice idea to visit small chapels available there and to walk over the hill to take some pictures. Next day, in the morning , you can take a best picture of lake with sun rise. As we drive towards Lhasa, on the way , we can stop for a shower in famous Yangpachen hot spring water if you are interested.
10th day departure from Tibet

4thday Gyangtse(13467ft high, 260 km)
Today, we drive to Gyantse town where you can find authentic life style of Tibetan people. The journey involves crossing of two high passes Kamba La (15,700 ft) and Karo La (16,500ft) and will drive you through beautiful YamdrokTso Lake which is 40 miles long. Yamdrok Tso Lake is one of the four holiest lakes of Tibet and has turquoise green water. As we leave the lakeshore behind, the road climbs to Karo La (16,500ft) pass, where you will make a short stop ,you will discover a huge Mt. Nyechenkangsar (7190mt) capped with huge glacier. The whole journey from Lhasa to Gyangtse takes 7 hours long.
5th day Shigatse(12,785ft high, 90km)
After breakfast, we will visit the Pelkor Chode and Kumbum Monastery-the main highlights of Gyantse City. Kumbum Stupa is the landmark of Gyantse and can be spotted from a long distance. If you are a hiking enthusiast, you may also attempt hiking the historical fortress of Gyantse. View from the fortress over the city is just superb. From Gyantse, it is less than 2 hours drive to Shigatse, the second largest city of Tibet. The journey will be through native people,s farm land and the region has got the most fertile land in whole central Tibet and it is known as “land of barley”. Once we arrive Shigatse, we check in hotel and later take a relaxing walk through the Shigatse’s Flea market which is a nice bargaining place for Tibetan souvenir. In the afternoon, you will visit the famous Tashi Lhunpo monastery .
6thshegar(250km,4300m)
Since you are all set with acclimatisation, we gradually ascend into the mountainous Himalayan terrain by traversing few remarkable passes, you will have the best view of five Himalayan mountains which are above 8000 m. from the ridge of Gyawu la pass (5150mt), numbers of snow capped peaks appearing out from the rest like warriors among the soldiers, through the barren mountains but astonishing landscapes and photogenic villages within the hilly valleys. Today you will have first view
Mt. Everest if the weather permits.
7thkhartha valley(120km,3680m)
We begin the trip little earlier as we need to organise yaks and potters for the trek ,we are heading to do. But before that we have to drive through panoramic Gyawula pass (5150m), from where we will enjoy the view of 5 mountains above 8000mt including Mt. Everest. We have to cover 120km to reach our destiny.
8th day -16th day trekking(280km)
Khartha trek is popularly known as khangshung valley trek, we will be heading through khartha valley most of the time. This nine or ten days trek will give you an opportunity to
experience the best trek of your life time. It takes long time to cover up the whole trek, yet
you dont have to cover a long distance each day. This trek will lead you to walk beside
the world,s tallest mountains like, Mt. Everest(8848m) ,Mt Makalu(8463m) and Mt. Lhotse(8516m)..
This trek will take you from barren mountains to a beautiful greenery and from very high pass to a very low camp site. Our main destiny of this trek is to reach the Eastern base camp of the Mt. Everest which not many are aware of it. The highest point that you will be experiencing in this trek is Langma la pass(5400m) which you will be crossing on your second last day trek.
17th day Rongbuk(120km, 4900m)
We drive to Rongbuk , which is 120 km away from here and here we will experience the face of nothern Mt Everest and it is only 8 km further from Rongbuk and you do have option either to take a eco bus or go there by walk. Again, once you reach there, you will witness the mighty Mt. Everest from nearby. If time permits, you can visit the world,s highest monastery ie Rongbuk monastery.
18th day shigatse
We retrace the road back to shigatse and need to cover 360 km today.
19th day trip(280km)
This time, you will be driving through northern road and the whole driving will be along with famous Brahmaputra river and you shall see some narrow gorges. The whole journey takes 6-7 hours drive. Here we conclude whole Mt. Everest trip ,khartha trek and we are confident that you shall return home with so much beautiful memories and spiritual knowledge to share your friends back in your home town.
20th day departure from Tibet
