The Tibet railway is known to be world’s highest railway, in short we call it “sky railway”.
Doing a tour on Tibet train has become very popular now a days and it is rather a good choice of travelling to Tibet with the completion of the world’s highest railway. The whole journey gives you an opportunity to experience the real beauty of Tibet and ride over some mesmerizing pass and perhaps you may witness some wild life. The Qinghai – Tibet Railway is the only railway that links Lhasa railway station to the existing rail network of mainland china and at present, there are direct trains to Tibet from Xining, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Chongqing and Lanzhou. Detailed Itinerary
1st day arrival of Xining(2200m)
Xining is the capital city of Qinghai province, situated on the edge of the Tibetan plateau at 2200m. Our driver or guide will greet you at airport and transfer you to the hotel.
You may do a short trip to Ma Chu river if time permits or you will have free time to walk around the city.
2nd day sightseeing
In the morning, you can visit Kumbum monastery, built up in 1560 by the 3rd Dalai Lama and it,s also a birth place of the great Tsongkapa, who is known to be the founder of yellow hat lineage. After visiting this huge monastery, you will be seen off at train station and from here, your train excursion heads to Lhasa. You will spend a whole day on train and enjoy fabulous scenery along the world famous Qinghai – Tibet railway, the highest railway in the world.
3rd day at Lhasa(3600 m high):
Upon arrival, our guide and the driver will greet at railway station and drive to your respective hotel in Lhasa, stay at hotel for adapting to the high altitude, as it ,s good if you don ,t push yourself harsh and take it easy. Even if you want to walk out, make it light as it ,s your first day in Tibet. And make sure that you drink mineral water more than usual. Try to avoid having alcohol on first three nights in Tibet. Your guide will introduce you the tomorrow ,s program.
4th day at Lhasa:
Full day sightseeing of Lhasa, in the morning, you can visit the treasure house Potala Palace- the center attraction of whole Lhasa. It is founded in 7th century and since then it had been used as a palace of every successive leaders of Tibet. In the afternoon, your guide will lead you to visit the Sera monastery, which was founded in 1419, in 15th century. It ,s the second largest yellow hat lineage monastery in whole Lhasa. if you are hiking enthusiast or don ,t show any sign of altitude sickness, ask your guide to lead an hour hiking through the pilgrimage path around the monastery and it ,s worth taking chance. While visiting the monastery, you will witness the monks doing philosophical debates in the courtyard.
5thday at Lhasa:
Today ,we will visit Drepung monastery, it was once the largest yellow hat lineage monastery of whole of Tibet and it was founded in 1416 and one get to see some magnificent statues of Buddha which are dated back to 15th century. Even if it was badly affected during the cultural revolution, but still some of the original buildings which are dated back to 15th century can be seen even today.
In the afternoon, your guide shall guide to the Jokhang temple which is situated in the old Tibetan quarter of Lhasa. It was founded in 7th century , considered one of the first Buddhist temple ever built up in whole Tibet, founded even before the full fledge Buddhism came to Tibet. Founding this Buddhist temple is a mark of initiating the Buddhism here. After the visit, we advise to take a circumambulation around the temple, as you can witness some of hundred years old authentic buildings and you will come across hundreds of local pilgrims doing pilgrimage circuit around the temple. If you are interested in shopping, you will be welcomed by souvenir shop owners. You will be escorted to the hotel by our tour guide.
6thday Gyangtse (3900mt,13467ft high, 260 km)
Today, we drive to Gyantse town where you can find authentic life style of Tibetan people. The journey involves crossing of two high passes Kamba La (15,700 ft) and Karo La (16,500ft) and will drive you through beautiful YamdrokTso Lake which is 40 miles long. YamdrokTso Lake is one of the four holiest lakes of Tibet and has turquoise green water. As we leave the lakeshore behind, the road climbs to Karo La (16,500ft) pass, where you will make a short stop ,you will discover a huge Mt. Nyechenkangsar(7190mt) capped with huge glacier. The whole journey from Lhasa to Gyangtse takes 7 hours long.
7th day Shigatse(3800m,12,785ft high, 90km)
After breakfast, we will visit the PelkorChode and Kubum Monastery- the main highlights of Gyantse City. Kubum stupa is the landmark of Gyantse and can be spotted from a long distance. If you are a hiking enthusiast, you may also attempt hiking the historical fortress of Gyantse. View from the fortress over the city is just superb. From Gyantse, its less than 2 hour drive to Shigatse, the second largest city of Tibet. The journey will be through native people ,s farm land and the region has got the most fertile land in whole central Tibet and it is known as “land of barley”. Once we arrive Shigatse, we check in hotel and later take a relaxing walk through the Shigatse’s Flea market which is a nice bargaining place for Tibetan souvenir. In the afternoon, you will visit the famous Tashi Lhunpo monastery .
8th day trip(280km)
This time, you will be driving through northern road and the whole driving will be along with famous Brahmaputra river and you shall see some deep narrow gorges. The whole journey takes 6-7 hour drive.
9thand 10thday Drigungtil–Terdom nunnery-Lhasa
As you start you, after a while, it takes you through a wonderful journey with its featured drive to off the beaten track , cutting through isolated villages and alone nomads family tents highlight the rural beauties, then Drigung monastery which is sprouting up on hill and steep ridge and it is known for sky burial . After visiting this, you will be driving further 7 km to Terdom nunnery aloof from the tourist crowded cities condition you a beautiful time to relax and enjoy the hot spring water to bathe and next day, you will be driving back to Lhasa through same way.
If you are still interested in visiting one more monastery, you can visit Ganden monastery(1409) and you will meet this monastery on your way back to Lhasa and it is indeed worth visiting
11th day departure from Tibet

Detailed Itinerary
1st day at BEIJING City
The driver will greet you at the airport and transfer to your respective hotel. You will have free time to walk around the city by yourself.
2nd day Beijing,Great wall at Badaling, Ming tombs-Changling
You will visit the majestic great wall which is the most famous symbol of china and one of the world,s remarkable architectural wonders. It was expanded during the Ming dynasty(1368-2644 ad) then, visit Ming tombs, the burial site of the emperor Wanly, who was the 13th emperor of the Ming dynasty who ruled for 48 years until in 1620. Stay overnight in Beijing
3rd day: Forbidden city, Temple of heaven, Summer palace
In the morning, you will visit the historic Tiananmen square which is the largest city square in the world and the spiritual heart of china, and then the magnificent forbidden city which is located in the center of Beijing and used to be the imperial palace of the Ming and Qing dynasties with a history of around 600 years. In the afternoon, visit the Summer Palace and Temple of Heaven , Summer Palace was an imperial summer resort of the Qing dynasty. It is the most splendid classical garden in china. The temple of heaven is a royal sacred site where prayers for good harvests, prosperity and harmonious life are offered. In the evening , board overnight train to Xian and spend the night in train
4th day Xian:Terra-Cotta Warriors and horses
Our guide will pick you up at train station and transfer to your hotel. After relaxing for a while, we
will drive to visit the eighth wonder of the world, the Terra Cotta warriors and horse museum. You will not only be attracted by the life- sized warrior figures and horses, each of which has distinct facial expressions and positions, but also be astonished by various kinds of ancient weapons which reflect the highly advanced technology in weapon-making 2200 years ago. Then visit the Banpo museum, the underground palace as well.
5th day train to Lhasa from Xian
In the morning, you will board the famous sky train to Lhasa in Xian train station and to start the wonderful journey of exploring the highest train ride in the world. The train journey will take you about 32 hours. You have to spend over night in train. You will have whole day window sightseeing along the Qinghai-Tibet railway, you will see land of snows, desert, immense grassland, snow covered mountain, beautiful lakes which can be fairly entertaining.

11th and 12thShegar(4300) and mt.Everest base camp(5200mt)
Since you are all set with acclimatisation, we gradually ascend into the mountainous Himalayan terrain by traversing few remarkable passes, you will have the best view of five Himalayan mountains which are above 8000 m. from the ridge of Gyawu la pass (5150mt), numbers of snow caped peaks appearing out from the rest like warriors among the soldiers, through the barren mountains but astonishing landscapes and photogenic villages within the hilly valleys. As, we arrive Rongbuk(4900mt), you will have seriously a marvellous view of world,s tallest mountain. So, you either check in
Guest house or tent to spend your night . In the afternoon, You can either trek or take a eco bus to reach the famous mt. Everest base camp, as we have to cover 8 km more from Rongbuk monastery.
13th day trip
We will have a sunrise view of Mt.Everest and time to farewell the mighty Himalayan mountains and then we retrace the road back to shigaste .
14th day trip(280km)
This time, you will be driving through northern road and the whole driving will be along with famous Brahmaputra river and you shall see some narrow gorges. The whole journey takes 6-7 hour drive. Here we conclude whole Mt. Everest trip and we are confident that you shall return home with so much beautiful memories and spiritual knowledge to share your friends back in your home town.
